Of Croydon, Surrey, Distiller. Named in fr's will 1772, and to have half share of his business, on attaining 21 in 1778. Became a Freeman of Vintners Co. by servitude 2 Feb 1780. Apprenticed to Robert Walker. Was awarded in lieu of right of Common 4a 2r 25p on Croydon Common under Croydon Inclosure of Commons
Award in 1797.

Will of WILLIAM CHATFIELD of Croydon, Surrey, wine merchant SAS-BR/184 30 Jul 1812
Contents:
Devise to wife Mary, brother-in-law John Bridges and son James Chatfield of all freehold and leasehold messuages, lands and premises, with (inter alia) trust for sale after the death of said wife. Administration granted out of the P.C.C. with the Will annexed, to Charles CHATFIELD, esq. and Mary CHATFIELD, children of the decd., all the executors having died.

Died suddenly of apoplexy in the street, at 10pm 30 May 1821, aged 64.
