James Ford Bell III, age 66, died peacefully on September 24, at his home in New York City, of cancer.

Preceded in death by his grandparents, James F. and Louise Heffelfinger Bell; father, James Ford Bell, Jr.; stepmother, Elinor Watson Bell; and brother, Peter B. Bell. Survived by his mother, Valborg Mockridge, and stepfather, Norton Mockridge, of San Antonio, TX; brothers, Ford and Cecil Bell of Wayzata; and sisters, Louise Reinhardt of Millbrook, NY and Lita Von Lieres of Munich, Germany. Also survived by stepsister, caregiver, and beloved best friend, Nancy Miner, of Bridgeport, CT.

Jim was a kind and gentle soul who enjoyed building and tinkering in his workshop and who loved to help others. Most of all, he enjoyed reading, especially poetry. He also loved everything about animals and the outdoors. Memorials may be directed to the James Ford Bell Museum of Natural History at the University of Minnesota, 10 Church Street, S.E., Minneapolis, 55455. Services will be private.
