He opened the Lansdowne Diamond Gallery in 1981, and the business remains in his family today. More recently, he operated Diamond Masters in Turfland Mall and the Man O' War Place shopping center. Chatfield also owned construction and real estate businesses in Lexington, operated the American Spa on Regency Road, and owned and operated numerous other businesses in Lexington. He was a licensed sea captain and enjoyed boating, spending time with his family, and making money, but not necessarily in that order.
