Susan Talbert Parker, 84, of Southern Pines, died Monday, Feb. 25, 2008, at Pinelake Health Rehabilitation, Carthage. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, 2008, at First Baptist Church, Aberdeen, with the Rev. Mike Branscome officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today (Wednesday, Feb. 27), at Boles Funeral Home, Southern Pines. Mrs. Parker was born Nov. 10, 1923, in Southern Pines, the last of six children born to the late G. R. and Carolina Chatfield. She was a graduate of Southern Pines High School and attended the church her father helped construct, the Church of Wide Fellowship, which was later named Community Congregational Church. Mrs. Parker was a longtime resident of Southern Pines, and was an active member in the community. She worked with United Utilities Telephone Company of the Carolinas and retired after 25 years of service. She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary of Southern Pines, and was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. "She was widely known for her smile, her wonderful cooking and her fun-loving personality," says a family member. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur B. Parker. Mrs. Parker is survived by three daughters, Patsy Smith, of Southern Pines, Johnsie Duplessis and her husband, Brent, of Aberdeen, and Becky Baker and her husband, Lynn, of Cameron; a son, John Talbert Jr. and his wife, Leeann, of Southern Pines; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Animal Advocates of Moore County, 355 Pine Vista Drive, Aberdeen, NC 28315. Boles Funeral Home, Southern Pines, is assisting the family.
