Mrs. A. K. Callahan, 77, pioneer of western Nebraska and former Gering resident, passed away Monday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. M. M. McKinnon of Bushnell, following a cerebral hemorrhage. She had been in ill health for some time.
Her maiden name was Ida Winona Powers, and she was born August 11, 1854, in Alberta, Canada. She was aged 77 years and 27 days. She was united in marriage to A. K. Callahan May 2, 1875, at Topeka, Kans., her husband preceding her in death January 14, 1921.
Mrs. Callaham was a pioneer of Banner County, arriving there by covered wagon 7 Jun 1887. She lived there until 1901 when she moved to Gering. Five years ago she left Gering to live with her children.
Three daughters and one son survive: Mrs. Lulu C. Temples of Denver, Mrs. Viola C. McKinnon of Bushnell, Mrs. Faye C. Scott of LaGrange and J. E. Callahan of Harrisburg. In addition, one sister, Mrs. Herman Montag, of Oakland, Calif., and 16 grandchildren and six great grandchildren survive.
Mrs. Callaham was a member of the Methodist church for 56 years, for 30 years affiliating with the church at Gering.
