Funeral Services held For William H. Lane
Wm. H. Lane, a respected citizen of Harveyville for many years, passed away at his home at the south edge of town last Saturday. His death was caused by a heart ailment, following an illness of several months.
William Harvey Lane was born August 2, 1868, at Salem, Indiana and died August 26, 1939 at the age of 71 years and 24 days. he was the son of Steven and Rebecca lane and came to Kansas in the early 70's, settling with his parents on a farm near Peterton, Kansas.
As a young man he worked on a ranch near Eskridge and for seventeen years he worked in the Santa Fe Shops in Topeka. He was married October 28, 1904 to Mary B. Walker. To this union three children were born. He was preceded in death by a son, Harvey William, who died in infancy, and their son Virgil, who died only seven months ago.
Mr. Lane had been a member of the A.F.&A.M. order for forty-one years, having belonged to No. 17 Lodge in Topeka before he moved here twenty-three years ago.
For about eight years he and his family engaged in farming, then he came to town and worked as a carpenter and plumber.
He had not been in good health for a number of years and his condition had grown steadily worse for several months.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Lane of the home; his daughter, Mrs. Mabel Tindell of St. Marys; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Pauline Lane and three grandchildren, William Dean, Lorna Lee, and Virgie Jean, all of St. Marys; and a sister, Josie Lane, of Topeka.
