Taylor, Ann
Birth Name | Taylor, Ann |
Gender | female |
Age at Death | about 52 years |
Narrative
Ann Taylor Strange c1751-1803 had a girl friend when they were both 14 called Ann Constant. The girls agreed that their first born girl would be named after each other and so it was. Hence in 1768 Ann Constant Strange was born. [Ann Constant Strange married Richard Mathew and had a daughter Ann Constant Mathew born 1792, Tunbridge Wells, Kent, England who married Alfred Crease 1810. Ann Constant Mathew and Alfred Crease emigrated on the "Thames" to Philadelphia arriving 1829 with their 4-6 children.
Annie Constance was a variety of the name. There is also an Amanda Constant Crease so the name went down the Crease line. In the USA Harold Constant Crease only lived for a year.
No connections have been found as to whether Ann Constant followed the pledge.
Her potrait of approximately 1790, according to the Victoria and Albert museum dress department, is apparently in existence but whereabouts is unknown although I have a photographic copy handed down through her great granddaughter, Emily Jane Strange.
Ann's parents could be John and Elizabeth of Igtham in Kent but Ann's death age of 42 does not fit as we believe she died in 1803 aged 52.
John TAYLOR of this Parish died 4 November 1771 aged 55 years. Elizabeth Taylor his wife died 4 May 1805 aged 83 years. William Taylor son of above died May 1789 aged 25 years. Ann Taylor, daughter of above died 1795 aged 42 years. Mary SEAMARK daughter of above died 12 July 1837 aged 79 years.
William, son of William and Elizabeth TAYLOR died 19 May 1780 in his fourth year.
Less likely are this family
5Mr William TAYLOR of this Parish, yeoman died 8 April 1777 aged (?65) years. Elizabeth his wife born 1702/3, died 1 February 1795 aged 92. This means that Ann would have been born when Elizabeth, her mother, was 48.
