OBITUARY
Raymond C. Chatfield Raymond was born May 12, 1921 in Worley, Idaho to Harry and Wilma Chatfield. Ray grew up in Lane, Idaho and Rose Lake. He graduated in 1938 from Rose Lake High School, and then served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a soldier at the Battle of the Bulge. He married Helen Strobel in 1944. They raised their four sons: Ray, Gary, Dick and Steve in Rose Lake. Raymond spent his life in the timber industry beginning his career using a cross cut saw. He spent most of his career logging the Coeur d'Alene River drainage. One of his early logging accomplishments was cutting a 10, 000 board foot white pine with a crosscut saw. He was one of the founding members of the Associated Logging Contractors, and was an independent logger and timber buyer until his retirement.
After retiring, Ray enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved hunting migratory waterfowl. He planted wild rice for the waterfowl in the sloughs where he hunted.
Raymond was preceded in death by his son Gary, brother Harry CHATFIELD, and sister Henrietta Tillman. He is survived by his wife Helen Strobel Chatfield of Coeur d'Alene, son Ray and Gail Chatfield of Rose Lake, son Dick and Judy Chatfield of Hayden Lake, and son Steve and Robin Chatfield of Pinehurst. He has 7 grandchildren and 8 Great Granchildren. A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 18, 2009 at Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d'Alene at 2:00 P.M.
