Mr. Parkinson was born June 2, 1919, in Delta, to Thomas and Ranae (Chatfield) Parkinson. He spent his childhood in Delta and graduated from Delta High School in 1937. After graduation he worked in the family trucking business.
He joined the USA Navy in 1941. He was honorably discharged in 1947.
Mr. Parkinson started working for the USA Postal Service in Delta in 1948. He retired in 1977 after 30 years of service.
He was a 72-year member of the Delta IOOF, a 60-year member of Delta Elks, a member of VFW, the National Association of Federal Employees and the Grand Mesa Good Sam Club. He was a longtime member of Delta United Methodist Church. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, camping, the outdoors and hooking up his fifth wheel camper and hitting the road.
Mr. Parkinson is survived by his wife, Gladys Parkinson; two sons, Larry of North Carolina, and Gary of Boulder; a daughter, Tammy Lambert of Idaho; a sister, Ramona Parkinson of Delta; a stepson, Bud Webb of Florida; a stepdaughter, Cheryl Sperry of Delta; 15 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Joy Parkinson; a brother, William; and a stepson, Timothy Webb.
