Salsbury/Sweeney on stockbrokers, p. 84. William Chatfield arrives in NSW on barque 'Planter', in 1840, marries, then to India on barque 'Emerald Isle', to Madras, India with his regt, per Mowle's Genealogy.

Of Parramatta, NSW Australia. Entered the Madras Army 1836. Lt. 1838; resigned
1843, and settled in NSW at Ryana near Goulburn.
Founder of much of Chatfield dynasty in eastern Australia.

CHATFIELD v. SINCLAIR. This was an action on promises. The declaration contained three special counts, setting out three agreements, entered into, by the defendant vith the plaintiff. Court hearing against builder of property he owned that was poorly built. The jury retired for about an hour, and on their return into Court found a verdict for the plaintiff, damages £310.

District Councils.-It having been certified to the Governor, that the vacancies existing in the undermentioned District Councils were not filled up by election, on the first Tuesday in the month of May, in accordance with the terms of the Charter of Incorporation, His Excellency has directed it to bo notified that he has been pleased to appoint tho following gentlemen to be Councillors for tho districts specified in connexion with their names respectively, viz. :-Goulburn- Messrs. Ronald Campbell, William CHATFIELD, and William Hilton Hovell, to hold office till 1st May, 1851.

RHYANA

The BEAUTIFUL ESTATE OF WILLIAM CHATFIELD, ESQ.,
SITUATE NEAR GOULBURN.

MESSRS. MORT AND BROWN Have received instructions to submit the above property to public competition, at their Rooms, George-street, ON FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 1 1850, At 11 o'clock.
THIS delightful Estate is within a convenient distance of the town of Goulburn, and consists of TWO THOUSAND SIX HUNDRED AND EIGHTY ACRES of the finest agricultural land, upwards of one hundred acres being cleared and a large portion under cultivation, 25 acres of which are in wheat, about 20 acres in oats, and 1.5 acre in potatoes.
THE IMPROVEMENTS are very considerable, and adapted in every way for the accommodation and comfort of a large family, the principal of which are as follows, viz:
Seven-roomed verandah cottage, with kitchen and pantry, etc.
Brick-built stable, 4 stalls, with harness room and coach-house, and hay-loft overall.
Wool-shed and wool-house, with capital lever wool-press.
Large barn, shingled roof.
Four-roomed slab cottage, ditto. Two stores, shingled roofs.
Huts for men.
Tool-house, pigsties, fowl-houses, etc.
Paddock of 500 acres
Cultivation paddocks, in all about 60 acres. 40-acre white clover paddock.
Stock yards, milking yards, etc.
A magnificent garden, well stocked with English fruit of every description, and in a high state of cultivation.
An abundant supply of water both at the house and in the paddock.
THE EXCELLENT RUN, which is attached to this property (under the pre emptive right, and at the minimum Government rental), is capable of carrying about
EIGHT THOUSAND SHEEP, and has upon it all necessary huts and other improvements.
THE SHEEP, which are really fine woolled, perfectly healthy, and warranted sound, consist of:
2500 Ewes, one to four years 634 Aged ewes
2121 Wethers, one to four years
31 Choice rams
6186 More or less, besides lambs, which - will be given in.
N B.-The wool from these sheep, as can be shown by account sales, has always brought high prices.
The quit-rent upon the purchased land is redeemed.
The delicate health of the proprietor is the sole cause for this compact and remunerative property being brought into the market, and the opportunity therefore should not be lost Bight of by any one seeking for a delightful residence, with a most profitable pursuit attached thereto.
The certainty of a railroad to Goulburn ought to enhance this estate immensely, as there can be no question whatever but that rich agricultural -lands in the immediate vicinity of Goulburn will, in the course of a few years, be of great value and importance.
THIS SPLENDID ESTATE AND SHEEP PROPERTY WILL POSITIVELY BE SOLD, AND HALF THE PURCHASE MONEY MAY REMAIN UPON MORTGAGE, WITH INTEREST AT EIGHT PER CENT.
