Mildred Lorene Galey Barnaby, 93, of Mulberry Health and Retirement Community, died at 4:55 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 6, 2009, at Home Hospital, Lafayette.
She was born Dec. 11, 1915, in Casey, Clark County, Illinois, to Charles Francis and Stella Mae Lamb Galey. She attended school in the one-room schoolhouse at Mannix Corner (corner of Indiana 38 and Indiana 39).
She married Paul F. Chatfield in 1933, and he preceded her in death. She married Ralph R. Barnaby and he also preceded her in death.
Mrs. Barnaby worked at the National Cigar Factory and Jules Simons, retiring in 1982. She lived with her daughter and her family for 55 years until moving to Mulberry Health and Retirement Community in March of 2008.
She was a member of First Pilgrim Holiness Church and also attended First Church of the Nazarene. She enjoyed crocheting, reading, listening to gospel music and being with her family.
Surviving is a daughter, Mary A. Goodnight of Mulberry; four grandchildren, Rick (Vicki) Goodnight of Hubert, North Carolina, Marsha (Grant E.) Burkhardt of Nashville, William R. Goodnight of Mulberry and Tammatha (Ray) Watkins of West Lafayette; seven great-grandchildren, Jessica (Chris) June, Amanda Goodnight, Christopher Burkhardt, Shelby Watkins, Dustin Watkins, Tanner Watkins and Skyler Watkins.
She was preceded in death by one son, Robert F. Chatfield; two sisters, Sybil J. Coffman and Helen Huffer; and one great grandson, Joshua Watkins.
