Difficulties were in the family due to alcoholic beverages. Money problems became worse, and separations. There was a time when Raymond took his son Charles to CO for a year, Charles was about 10 at the time. He also use to run alcohol during the prohibition time. Raymond was well known and liked in the community, even by the police.

There is a story about Raymond running a case of alcohol when a policeman stopped him and questioned what he was doing? He told the policeman that he had a case of booze under the blanket in the back seat of his car, the policeman just laughed and told him to go on his way. Periodically Raymond and his wife and children went to Milwaukee VET Hospital for routine check-ups due to the TB Virus. It was here they diagnosed that Raymond had a year to live.

Due to the difficulties in their lives, Raymond returned to his mother's home. He was 37 years old when he d. in his mother's house on Dec. 25, 1937.
