"Richard Cains came to NZ at Kerikeri aboaut
1810. Was at the 1st sermon of Samuel Marsdon at Bay of Islands Christmas.
Where he went later we do not know. (Not there 8 Sep 1993) [Meaning?].
Combined families No. 21. W. T. Cains bought Otuihu from William Potter on
28 Mar 1840. Land called Kaeretanga. 100' x 102' St. Sepulchres. Charles
Evanston. See book "A Social History of Russel" by L. Worsfold (ms 340).
See article/photo. Cains family ran hotel called? Halfway House-Otiuhi.
Isabella owned hotels Sydney. Auckland Museum Library 8 Sep 1993 Waldo
Arthur Heap called MS 1325 research. Box 3-Box 2 (4) corresp. Photo of
painting by R. Teha?? Captain Cook Mem Museum. Notes on Opua."
Says in some forms, born in Bristol, Glos, Eng (par of Philip St. Jacob,
Warminster). I am putting Warminster, not Bristol.

Second mar: entry 145 vol 23 NSW marriages.
Bur Place is Christchurch burial ground.
NOTE: See notes on him. He was deported to Australia because he was convicted
for pick pocketing for seven years. Arrived in 1821 and later moved to NZ.
Says he had 5 or 6 children with Isabella Whittle. See Waldo Heap Collection
at Auckland Museum Library.
