Martha was the daughter of Jonathan Willard Hazen and Hannah Chatfield. Her parents lived first in Richmond twp., hamlet of Honeoye, Ontario, NY, but later settled in Parma, Monroe, NY. Martha married Elijah Goodell and they had five children: William, Harry, Permelia (O'Brien), Hattie DuColon, and Fred. In late life, as a widow, Martha lived with Fred who remained single.

Jonathan and his wife were living near their eldest child, Daniel in 1865 in Kendall. Jonathan died in 1868. His wife may have gone to reside with other family members after that.]
