"The LaFayette Sun" - August 11, 1909:

Mr. G. H. Chatfield - Dies at Home of His Daughter, Mrs. Bynum, in Abilene, Texas.

A telegram was received here last Wednesday announcing the death of Mr. Geo. H. Chatfield, which occurred at the home of his daughter, Mrs. E. B. Bynum, of Abilene, Texas, at 1 o'clock, August 4th. Mr. Chatfield had been in bad health for some time, and in the hope of regaining his health, he and his wife went several months ago to spend some time in Texas. But his hopes were not realized, and he grew continually worse until the end came. His remains were brought home by his wife, accompanied by his daughter, Mrs. Bynum, and his son, Marvin Chatfield, of Montgomery.
The funeral services were conducted Saturday morning from the Methodist Church by rev. Edward Fulmer and the remains interred in the City Cemetery.
Mr. Chatfield was about 71 years old at the time of his death. He was born in Greenville, Ga., and moved to Alabama when quite a young man. He had been a resident of LaFayette for about 36 years.
In the death of Mr. Chatfield this community loses one of its best men. He was a faithful, devoted and consisted member of the Methodist church, a kind and loving husband and father, a good neighbor, and an upright, honorable man.
