John Wendell Robinson, Sr., of Pensacola, FL, passed away in the early morning of Wednesday, October 16, 2013. John was born in Franklin, Nebraska on October 4, 1931 to John Weston and Margaret Owen Robinson. He was a member of Gateway Church of Christ since 1987, where he loved to sing.

Immediately upon graduation from Franklin High School in 1949, John enlisted in the U.S. Navy. In 1954, John became what is known in the Navy as a "Mustang", transitioning from enlisted to commissioned officer. He reached the rank of Lieutenant Commander before retiring in 1974 with 25 years' service. John's proudest accomplishments included being an interpreter in Japan (he was fluent in Japanese), being a Meteorologist for the Navy Fleet Weather Service, and serving as the Executive Officer of the USS Newell DER-322 during the Vietnam War in the mid-1960s.

John's second career was as an Escambia County Master Gardener where he was awarded the Florida Master Gardener of the Year in 1996, and where he amassed over 24,000 volunteer hours helping the Pensacola community.

John Robinson was predeceased by his first wife of 51 years, Ollie June Fuller Robinson. He is survived by his second wife Janice Robinson, and his two children-son and daughter-in-law, John W. Robinson Jr. and Susie Robinson, and daughter and son-in-law, Becky Dych and Ed Dych. John is also survived by seven grandchildren, John Wesley Robinson, Shaun Daniel Robinson, Amanda Robinson, Jennifer Robinson, Lynnette Beltran, Amber Pate, and Tim Dych, and three great-grandchildren Daisy, Logan, Caroline Robinson.

The visitation will be held at Waters and Hibbert Funeral Home, 124 W Gregory Street, Pensacola, 32501, on Sunday, October 20, from 2 pm - 4 pm, and then on Monday October 21, from 8:30 am to 9:30 am. The funeral service will be held at the same location on Monday October 21, at 9:30 am, with burial at Barrancas National Cemetery immediately following. Ollie June Fuller was born on 20 February 1933 in Annona, Red River Co., Texas, USA. She died on 14 May 2006 at the age of 73 in USA. She was buried in Barrancas National Cmtry., Pensacola, Escambia Co., Florida, USA. Find A Grave Memorial# 75655857
