Obituary
Herkimer Oct. 26, Miss Mary Elizabeth Chatfield, a long-time resident of this village, passed away last evening at 5.05 o'clock at her residence in North Prospect Street, having endured patiently and resignedly a long period of illness. Miss Chatfield was born in the town of Fairfield, November 10, 1841, being the daughter of the late Dr. Clinton Chatfield and Margaret White Chatfield and had resided over 40 years in Herkimer. She was a student of the old Fairfield Seminary, in which institution she taught music and drawing for several years. She also taught in Adams and Oneida, and for several years conducted with her sister, Miss Frederica L. Chatfield, a studio in this village. She was of genial and pleasing disposition and had the qualities of high Christian character which brought her high esteem from all. She was a devout and consistent member of Christ Church, being regular in attendance at service when health permitted and was also active in Ladies Aid Society of the church. The sister above mentioned is the sole survivor.
The funeral will be held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the house the Rev. William C. Prout officiating.

Herkimer September 29 -

Frederica L. Chatfield, daughter of the late Dr. Clinton Chatfield and Margaret White, passed away yesterday afternoon. The family came to Herkimer nearly 50 years ago and established a home on 324 North Prospect Street, where Miss Chatfield resided up until four years ago. She was a woman of friendly traits and neighborly qualities and always ready to serve any worthy cause. She was a devout member of Christ Church and as a member of Guild Society took entire care of the choir vestments and for the pleasure and advantages of the choir ever worked. Three years ago she gave the church a beautiful oak wood screen in memory of her sister Mary Elizabeth Chatfield. She was a member of the Myrtle Chapter, Eastern Star, whose members will attend the funeral in a body, meeting at Masonic Club rooms at 1:30 pm.
