George W. "Bill" Chatfield, 81, widower of Billie I. Chatfield, died Monday, Sept. 13, 2004, at his home.

Born in Cromona, Ky., he was a son of the late Carl McCoy Chatfield and the late Icie Reed Chatfield. He was a retired U.S. Air Force veteran, having served in World War II and the Korean War. He was also retired from civil service at Shaw Air Force Base and was a member of the Hillcrest Masonic Lodge.

Survivors include three daughters, Sandra Patterson of Ennis, Texas, Tina Lyles and her husband, James M. Lyles, of Sumter and Dorothy C. Posey and her fiancé, Edward Olson, of Newport News, Va.; five grandchildren, Larissa, Alyssa, Sara, Matthew and Jonathan; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Boock.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home with the Rev. Eugene Mosier officiating.

Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery with full military honors.
