Ulmer, 80, of Gardner died Thursday, April 1, 1999, in Christus St. Frances Cabrini Hospital.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Corp during World War II and in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He worked for the VA for 25 years and was a member of DAV and VFW. He was a graduate of Louisiana College and earned a master's degree from LSU.
Survivors include his wife, Willie Laird Ulmer of Gardner four sons, Kurt Ulmer of Bonham, Texas, Mark Ulmer of Alexandria, Dana Ulmer of Fayetteville, Ark., and Dean Ulmer of Hot Springs, Ark. and nine grandchildren.
Services for Max C. Ulmer will be at 1 p.m. Monday in the chapel of John Kramer & Son.

Willie Laird Ulmer, 81, of Alexandria, passed away, Tuesday, July 28, 2009 in Riverside Hospital.
Mrs. Ulmer is preceded in death by her husband, Maxwell Curtis Ulmer; one son, Eric Stephen Ulmer; two brothers, H.T. Laird and T.C. Laird; two sisters, Pauline Marsh and Billie Faye Farrace.
Willie Ulmer is survived by: four sons, Kurt Ulmer and his wife, Debbie of Bonham, Texas, Mark Ulmer of Alexandria, Dana Ulmer and his wife, Regina of Lawson, Missouri and Dean Ulmer and his wife, Cindy of Hot Springs, Arkansas; one brother, Ed Laird and his wife, Clara of Alexandria; one sister, Mary Laird of Pineville; seventeen grandchildren; one great-grandchild.
