Randy L. Chatfield, age 42, of Alamosa Street, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away on Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at his home. Randy L. Chatfield was born on January 12, 1969 in Carlsbad, NM to Guy and Maxine (Bellamy) Chatfield Jr.
Randy graduated from Carlsbad Senior High School in 1987. Randy married Sonja Vernon on July 31, 1999 in Carlsbad, NM. Randy attended New Mexico State University, Northwood University, and Capella graduating with a Bachelor degree. Randy worked at WTS as a Data Administrator with a certification as a CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional). Randy has worked at WTS since October 2005, but combined with time spent working for NCI he has provided technical computer support to RCT's WDS/WWIS systems for about 10 years. Prior to WIPP, he did IT work for the Carlsbad Environmental Monitoring & Research Center. Randy was an expert with hardware and networking. His interest in computing and information technology extended beyond work, as it was also something he did as a hobby. Randy loved listening to and buying things off of "Let's Trade Even", as he enjoyed fixing and selling things. His hobbies included going to garage sales and alley shopping with his daughter. Randy also enjoyed watching his younger son's participate in various activities, playing in the swimming pool and bike riding and playing around with his family and all the kids in the neighborhood. He enjoyed taking the older boys to Vans Warp Tour concerts. One of his favorite music groups was the Black Eyed Peas. Randy was an avid Star Trek fan and loved dressing up for Halloween and was always helping other with their computer issues. Randy was always thinking and doing things for others with his whole heart and never expecting anything in return. Randy was a member of First Baptist Church, BPOE Elks # 1558 and the American Nuclear Society. Randy will be missed greatly by all of his family and friends. A true Star Trek fan has been beamed up to his heavenly home.
Randy was preceded in death by his father, Guy Chatfield Jr. and father-in-law, Dean Vernon Sr. Randy is survived by his wife, Sonja (Jiggly Puff), daughter, Ashlyn, sons, Bradley, Brennan, Lane and Lanndan all of Carlsbad, NM, mother, Maxine Chatfield Norma of Carlsbad, NM, sister and brother-in-law, Carol Perry and her husband, Fred of Santee, CA, aunt, Gladys Duff of Philadelphia, MO, uncle, Bradley Bellamy of East Peroia, IL, niece, Kim Freaken of Portland, TN, nephew, Kenny Jones of San Diego, CA; great-nieces: Molly Jones and Karli Jones of San Diego, CA, great-nephew, James Hunter Freaken of Portland, TN, mother-in-law, Patsy Vernon of Carlsbad, NM; brother-in-law, Dean Vernon, Jr. and his wife, Brigitte of Carlsbad, NM, sister-in-law, Kristie Merkel and her husband, Ed of Carlsbad, NM and many other nieces, nephews and cousins and his WIPP family.
