Alice Amelia James Edward C. ----- Date: Sun, 9 Jun 2013 Hi Colin, Although you won't know it, you have helped me a great deal with my family research through your own. People like you who let your research be searched by the likes of me are a god send! My grandmother was Elsie May Chatfield, born 1908 in Lewisham, Greater London England - Her father Richard Thomas Chatfield was born in 1865 In Hastings, Sussex. I have researched this line back to Alexander Chatfield (married to Mary Vennes in 1699) and although I can find generations going back even further, I am a bit dubious about adding any of them to my tree without any evidence to back it up. But the point of this note is just to add my thanks - I haven't gone through all your Chatfields yet, but I am already certain that I will find lots of valuable information. I have only been researching my family since 2010, so it is still early days for me! Many thanks Anne ----- I have attached a few bits for you, I had the picture of Richard, but thanks anyway - do you have the picture of his wife Alice Amelia - I have attached it just in case, but I should think you already have it. I got these pictures from Robert Chatfield, son of Arthur Chatfield - or Uncle Bob, born in 1910. I exchanged a few emails with Robert when I first started out on this tree, he was a mind of information and stories, I wonder if you have come across him? The other attachment is the military campaign log, I would like to find out more about his war. I believe that this is our Richard, but I haven't found anything else that would verify it. I don't have access to military records at the moment - but I do intend to get access at a future date - I am making a list of all military members of my family The last attachment is a descendant chart, which would bring you more or less up to date with my line. Obviously many on this list are still with us, so I trust you to be discreet, I am sure you are anyway!! This includes my personal notes - I was going to remove them, but thought they may be useful, if there is one or two things you can add to your own research then I am pleased to help. I try to be thorough and check all the details I find, and if possible add records and evidence, but if you notice any errors I be grateful for any corrections, and talking of which I did notice a small one in your research, it was Lavender house, 2 Rock a Nore Road Hastings - it is now a listed building, you can see most of it in Street View. Unfortunately, a café has spread itself in front of the building, but at least it is still there, a nice looking building too I will visit Hastings this summer and go and have some fish and chips in front of the house where my great Grandfather once lived! I was taken to Hasting many times while growing up and never knew that it was home to a large number of my ancestors! I am Ann Clements b.1966, my mother was Dorothy May Lawrence, daughter of Elsie May Chatfield. Its all in the chart. I enjoy researching Richard, he is one of my favourites, a more colourful ancestor, and I am lucky that so much research already exists about the Chatfield's, Cyril Henry Lawrence (Husband of Elsie May Chatfield) also comes from an interesting and well researched family, so this was fun to do. Now if only the other branches of my family were as easy to find! And fisherman are a welcome change from agricultural labourers - which most of my male relatives seem to have been! I seem to have been chatting away, but I so rarely have anyone who actually asks about my tree! When I contacted Robert Chatfield he said that I was the first person to have contacted him about his tree in the 10 years he had been doing it, and I now believe him, I would be happy to contact him again on your behalf if this is something that interests you. It has been a year or so since I contacted him last so it is about time I did, he is my cousin! What line of the Chatfield tree are you on? What ancestors, if any do we share? Thanks for listening!! Best regards Anne
