Find A Grave Memorial# 32204913 Velma Webb-Belanger 1926-2009 Velma lost both of her parents at a very early age and went to live with her Aunt Cordia in Van Nuys, Calif. While living there, she met and married her husband of 48 years, George Webb on Nov. 7, 1941. While in California, they had two daughters. In 1951, they moved their family to Cottonwood Wash in Pima, Ariz. on the existing Webb Homestead and had their third daughter. In 1956 the family moved to Willcox, to support George's business of drilling wells. In 1959 they had their son. After the passing of her husband, George, in 1991, she remarried her current husband, Bob Belanger of Sun City, Ariz. in 1994 and was married for 15 years. Velma was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother. She worked for many years at the Willcox Market and then worked at Sulphur Springs Valley Electric Cooperative until her retirement in 1989. She and her family enjoyed fishing and camping together. She was an accomplished seamstress and cook. She bowled for many years and enjoyed golf once she moved to Sun City. Velma was preceded in death by her husband George, parents Charles and Liilian Slay, one brother, Chuck Slay of California, and sister, Dorothy Croy of Texas. She is survived by her three daughters, Linda (Scott) Harris of Indian Hills, Colo., Roxie (Ken) May of Glendale, Ariz., Cathie (Jack) Thompson of Willcox, Arizona and one son, Joe (Kim) Webb, also of Willcox; one brother, Roy Slay of California, and sister-in-law, Lorraine Wheelis, of Everett, Wash.; 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her second family, husband, Bob Belanger, five stepchildren, Mike (Lori) Belanger of Boston, Mass., Jim, Rick, Denise, and Tom (Marcy) Belanger all of Peoria, Ariz.; seven step grandchildren and one step great-grandchild. A visitation will be held at 9 a.m. and funeral services at 10 a.m. at the LDS Church in Willcox, Ariz. on Wednesday, Oct. 14, with burial following at the Sunset Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest beside her loving and devoted husband George. |
