He was buried in Sussex, England. Moved to Low countries 1634 of Bergen-op-Zoom and Geertruidenberg, North Brabant. Thomas Chatfield was born probably about 1568. He is named as of age and received a portion in goods by the will of his father in 1594, and he also received £50 by the will of his uncle, George Chatfield, in 1599/1600. Further knowledge of him has been found only in the Visitation of Sussex of 1633-4, which states that he married a Dutch woman, that he was then living in the Low Countries in 1634, and that he had the following children: Thomas, Henry, Anne, Katherine, and Thesma. Paulinna van Hoven /Oudenhoven, daughter of Gillis van Oudenhoven and Anneken van der Elst, was born in Holland. She died 1623/1633. From a notarial document from 1623 mentioning “Thomas Chatfield, lieutenant in the company of Capt. Meoles & Paulina van Aldenhoven his wife,” of which the writer had previously seen only an abstract, has become available in facsimile reproduction. He signs his name “Thomas Chatfield” but she signs hers “Paolinna van Hoven.” The majority of records relating to her however give her name as Paulina van Oudenhoven, and it is now known that she was a daughter of Gillis van Oudenhoven and Anneken van der Elst, of Den Haag.
