Marlene Patrick Chatfield, 79, of Syracuse, passed away unexpectedly at her home on Tuesday (January 5, 2016). Marlene was the only child of the late Joseph and Frances Patrick, also of Syracuse. She was a loving, devoted mother to her three daughters, Lisa Chatfield, Kimberly Chatfield (Jesse Cizenski) and Carin (Gary) Saxenian. She also leaves behind two grandchildren, Patrick Calkins and Ava Saxenian, as well as her beloved cousin, Marsha Jaquin.
Marlene graduated from Syracuse University in 1957. After raising her daughters, she joined her father at the family business, Patrick's 2-hour Dry Cleaning and Laundering, Inc. Upon her father's passing, Marlene took over as president of the company in 1982. Under her leadership, Patrick's Cleaners continued to provide exceptional service to its commercial and residential customers. She also remained devoted to the well-being of her employees until her retirement in January 2009. Marlene will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, January 13 at 10 a.m. in Holy Family Church. Marlene will be laid to rest in Resurrection Chapel Mausoleum, St. Mary's Cemetery, DeWitt.

February 26, 2004 Syracuse native Susan Morse, 55, died at home on February 26, 2004. She was the first female apprentice of Painters Local 31, and the first female journeyworker painter. Ms. Morse owned the painting company Women's Work of Central New York, Inc., of Syracuse; and Women's Work of Central Florida, Inc., of Orlando. She was a 30-year member of the National Organization of Women (NOW), and is included on the Rosa Parks Wall of Tolerance in Mississippi. Her family and friends were entertained by her extraordinary sense of humor, and deeply respectful of her compassion, generosity, and fierce political activism.
Susan was predeceased by her father Edward R. Morse in 1969. She is survived by: her mother, Betty Jane Morse; a sister, Kathleen Morse, Kathleen's life partner, Ginny Russell; and a brother, Edward Morse. Ms. Morse is also survived by stepchildren Karen Saxenian, husband Gary, and their daughter Ava Bleu; Lisa Chatfield and her son Patrick; Kimmy Chatfield and her life partner Jessie Cizenski; aunts Leona Hayes, Rosemary DeBottis, and Ann Morse; uncle Michael DeBottis; many cousins, and friends including lifelong cherished friends Marlene Ryan and Marlene Chatfield.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 6, at 11 a.m. at Pentecost Evangelical Missionary Baptist Church, 1650 S. State Street.
