394. Elnathan Chatfield was born about 1733 in Derby, New Haven Co., Connecticut, USA. He died before August 1778 at the age of 45 in Milford, New Haven Co., Connecticut, USA. He was buried in Trinity Cmtry., Seymour, New Haven Co., Connecticut, USA. New Haven Probate Records, Vol 12 p.272:
Administration on the estate of Elnathan Chatfield of Milford was granted in August 1778 to Raymond Sanford, in the right of his wife, Rebecca, daughter of the deceased. Mention is made of four children, unnamed; Hannah Chatfield was appointed guardian to the daughter Sarah.

Elnathan lived just east of what is now the Seymour, CT line, on the north side of Bladens Brook. This was within the limits of Milford until Jan 1784, when the town of Woodbridge was incorporated. When the town of Bethany was incorporated in 1832, and Bladens Brook was made a part of the boundary, the site of the house was in Bethany, CT. The house was a few rods north of the house afterward occupied by Oliver Stoddard Chatfield and later owned by his eldest dau. Mrs. Friend Cook Ford, which is crossed by the Seymour and Woodbridge town line. Mary Jane (Chatfield) Ford, wife of Friend Cook Ford, was the great-granddaughter of Elnathan.

He bought land off Lieut. John Chatfield 1750-GO, et seq. In October, 1760, he settled the estate of Levi Chatfield 1st, "late of Derby," who lived on the hill about a quarter of a mile south of Elnathan Chatfield's house. (Colonial Records, Vol. 11, p. -104.)

Elnathan Chatfield and Hannah Northrop were married on 12 September 1754 in Woodbridge, New Haven Co., Connecticut, USA. Hannah Northrop, daughter of Joel Northrop and Ruth Andrews, was born on 27 September 1729 in Woodbridge, New Haven Co., Connecticut, USA. She died after 1790 at the age of 61. She was buried in Trinity Cmtry., Seymour, New Haven Co., Connecticut, USA.
