Find A Grave Memorial# 81006907 Isabelle G. Irwin was born June 2, 1916 the daughter of Andrew and Augusta (Hagenau) Irwin in Park Rapids. She grew up and attended school in Park Rapids. She graduated from Park Rapids High School in 1934. She married Guy L. Gulsvig Sept. 14, 1940 in Dorset. They lived in Dorset and Wadena before moving to Nevis in the early 40s, where she has resided since. Isabelle was employed as the Resort Manager for Coppersmith Lodge on Lake Belle Taine for twenty five years. She also worked as a CNA at Ah-Gwah-Ching State Nursing Home and as the head cook at the Nevis Public Schools for 14 years. She enjoyed looking up family history and traveled to Belle Plaine several times where the Irwin side of the family came from. She loved working in her flower gardens and spent many winter evenings creating beautiful embroidery work. Isabelle always had well stocked cupboards and freezers in case of unexpected visitors and there was always an extra place at the table for one (or six)! She was a wonderful cook, baker and entertainer. There was always a bed, couch, or even the floor for someone who needed a place to sleep. Guy's garden was always plentiful with vegetables and she also bought lugs of fruit to "can" for the winter. She was a caring and helpful friend to her "neighbors." Isabelle was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Nevis. Isabelle is survived by her children: son, Jerry Gulsvig of Grand Rapids, daughter, Janice Dagen of Bemidji, daughter, Barbara Hanson (special friend,Jim Raduenz) of Nevis, son, David (Gretchen) Gulsvig of Big Fork, daughter-in-law, Nina Gulsvig of Grand Rapids; nine grandchildren: Shaunna Gulsvig of Duluth, Janna (Dave) Schiltz of Bemidji, Jolee (Brian) Murawski of Rogers, Kristen (Todd) Eklund of Alexandria, Holly (Chris) Sutton of Alexandria, Heidi Hanson of Nevis, Doug (Carol) Hanson of Sauk Rapids, Aurimy (Mike) Groom of Grand Rapids, Amber (Brad) Clayton of Grand Rapids, five great-grandchildren: Andrae Gulsvig of Duluth, Alex and Emily Groom of Grand Rapids, Dylan Clayton of Grand Rapids, Hannah Eklund of Alexandria; sister-in-law, Doris Gulsvig of Bemidji, brother-in-law, Wyman (Gerry) Gulsvig of Edina; brother-in-law, Joe Engstrom of Virginia; and many nieces and nephews. Isabelle was preceded in death by her husband, Guy; parents, Ace and Gustie Irwin; sister, Peggy Gulsvig; son-in-law, Gary Dagen, and granddaughter, Nicole Johnson. Funeral service: 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, at Beth-any Lutheran Church in Nevis. Visitation: one hour prior to the service at the church. Rev. Daniel A. Babine will officiate. The organist is Barb Hanson. Julie Smith and Diane Saak will sing "Good Night and Good Morning." Congregational hymns are "Beautiful Savior" and "Sweet Hour of Prayer."
