Helen L. Kuipers, 80, of Scio passed away peacefully Thursday at her home after a prolonged illness.

She was born and raised near Elk City, the eldest of three children. She made her home in Scio with her husband, Henry, for more than 63 years. She was a kind and generous woman who shared whatever she had with those in need.

She was a founding member of Scio's charitable organization the Munker's Club. She enjoyed gardening, cooking and sewing and shared that knowledge with Linn County residents through the Linn County Extension Service. She was a gifted seamstress who produced numerous pieced quilts and wall hangings.

Helen is survived by her husband, Henry of Scio; sons Steven Kuipers and wife Miriam of Albany, and Loren Kuipers and wife Deborah of Scio; daughters Sharon Hedricks of Salem and Catherine David of Scio; brother James Chatfield of Stayton; 11 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Pat Gholson.

A visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday at Weddle Funeral Home. A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Calvary Lutheran Church in Stayton with a graveside service to follow at Miller Cemetery in Scio. A reception will follow at the Mennonite Church in Scio.

Helen L Chatfield and Henry C Kuipers were married in 1945 in USA. Henry C Kuipers was born on 22 September 1919. He died after 2008 at the age of 89.
