Will of Susan Streeter: 28th September 1736
I Susannah Streeter of the parish of Worth in the County of Sussex relict of John Streeter of this parish being sick and weak of body but of perfect mind and memory Thanks be given unto God therefore calling into mind the mortality of my Body and knowing it is appointed for all -----onto to die do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament that is to say, principally and first of all I give and ------- my soul into the hands of God who gave it and for my Body I commend(?) it to be buried in Christian-like and devout manner at the discretion of executors hereafter named nothing doubting but at the general resurrection I shall receive(?) the same again by the mighty power of God and as touching such worldly estate as wherewith it has pleased God to bless me with I give devise and dispose of the same in the following form and manner first of all I give and bequeath unto my son John Dumbrell the sum of twenty shillings also I give and bequeath unto my daughter wife of Edward Whiske the sum of twenty shillings all other of my estate whatsoever when my debts and legacies given by my late husband is all paid and funeral expenses and charges of proving my late husband's will and wishes (?) are all paid and discharged and the goods chattels and credits are all sold and the money gathered up together that it is known what sum it shall be I give and bequeath unto my five children Mary Elizabeth Samuel John and Sophiah Streeter to be ------and equally divided between themselves and ----- alike to be paid unto them as they are arrived at the age of twenty one years excepting my linen to be equally divided between my five children that is to say Mary Elizabeth Samuel John and Sophiah Streeter and also four(?) silver spoons the largest to go to Mary and Elizabeth and the smallest (?) to Sophia also my four gold rings the largest to my daughter Mary and the next largest to Elizabeth the --- to Sophiah Streeter and I do hereby ----- ordain and appoint my brother Robert Chatfield of Ditchling and my kinsman Jonathan Batchley of Cuckfield and Charles Gurr of Cuckfield to be executors in trust of this my last will and testament allowing them there charge they shall ---- in executing the same trust and I do hereby revoke disavow ----- and make void all other wills and testaments by me before made ratifying and confirming this to be my very last will and testament -------I hereto set my hand and seal the day and year above written Susannah Streeter. It is further agreed before the signing and sealing that John Dumbrell should have five pounds more signed sealed published and declared by the said Susannah Streeter to be her last will and testament in the presence of us Richard Gardener, the mark of Jone Lindfield.
