John Chatfield and Frances Sturt were married in 1737 in Ripley, Surrey, England. Frances Sturt, daughter of Nathaniel Sturt and Ann Duncumbe, was born in 1712 in England. Messuage, farm and lands called Ganghill Farm in Stoke-next-Guilford and several closes of land known as New Closes in Merrow Probate of Frances Chatfield of Weybridge in Surrey, widow, devising all the above property, plus £500 to her son Rev George Chatfield, £100 to her daughter Frances, wife of Rev Charles Sheppard and 40 guineas to her daughter Martha, wife of John Tyler esq. With an affidavit sworn by Rev George Chatfield of Grays Inn in Middx, clerk on 4 July 1781.

Will proved at Somerset House 1820. http://www.exploringsurreyspast.org.uk/GetRecord/SHCOL_1408 When the Reverend George Chatfield died in 1820, Boxgrove and Ganghill Farms were virtually all that remained of the once large estate of his grandparents Nathaniel Sturt and Ann Duncumbe. His heirs were Tyler and Spooner great-nephews and nieces, who sold in 1838 to Alexander Robertson of Hoe Place, Woking owner of other land in Merrow (1408/8). After rationalising his holdings in 1840 by means of an exchange with the Hospital of the Holy Trinity, or Abbot's Hospital, in Guildford (1408/12), Robertson sold the land off piecemeal. From 1853 the area was being developed, both by the building of large houses along the London Road, including Merrow Grange, Parklands and Uplands, and by the laying out of new roads, such as Boxgrove Road (see 1408/16 and 18) and Horseshoe Lane.
