Floyd Bentley Miner was born on 1 February 1872 in Cortland Co., New York, USA. He lived in Syracuse, Onondaga Co., New York, USA in 1900. He lived in Perinton, Monroe Co., New York, USA in 1910. Floyd died on 30 August 1943 at the age of 71 in Rochester, Monroe Co., New York, USA. He was buried in Oakwood Cmtry, Penfield, Monroe Co., New York, USA. He lived in Fairport, Monroe Co., New York, USA 1920/1930. Fairport Herald-Mail, Sept. 2, 1943, pg. 1 -- Death Takes Floyd B. Miner Editor of the Herald-Mail Floyd Bentley Miner, editor of the Fairport Herald-Mail, passed away in Genesee hospital, Rochester, Monday, August 30, 1943, aged 71 years. Mr. Miner was born in Cortland February 1, 1872, the son of Oscar and Julia Miner. After his education in Cortland schools, he taught for some time and then began his newspaper career in the office of the Cortland Daily Standard and later on the Syracuse Journal. Desiring a broader field for his newspaper aspirations he came to Fairport in 1906 and purchased the Fairport Herald of its publisher, Andrew J. Deal. He immediately started improvements in the paper which he continued until it ranked with other first-class weekly papers of the state. His newspaper ability was recognized by the New York Press Association where he had held official positions and he was also a member of the National Editorial Association. He continued to conduct the paper successfully until 1925 when he sold the newspaper and printing business to F.M. Elliott. In May of 1925 the Fairport Publishing Company was formed by a number of Fairport business men and the Herald and Monroe County Mail then published by E.B. Hard, were taken over and combined under the title Fairport Herald-Mail. Mr. Miner was elected president of the publishing company and editor of the paper and Mr. Elliott was elected secretary-treasurer of the company. Mr. Miner never aspired to political office but had the respect of his fellow townsmen and had served as trustee of the Fairport First Methodist church, a member of the Public Library and school boards, member of the village Zoning Commission and had given faithfully and liberally of his time on public matters of the village. He was extensively known by the Masonic fraternity throughout this section as he had been very active in that organization. He was a past master of Fairport Lodge No. 476, past district deputy grand master for the Monroe District, past high priest of Hamilton Chapter, Royal Arch Masons, member of Cyrene Commandery, Rochester Consistory, Damascut Temple Shrine. At the time of his death he was district deputy grand master of the State of New York, Monroe District, for Rochester Council. He was also a member of Fairport Lodge No. 536, I.O.O.F. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Mary Corning Miner, and one daughter, Mrs. Amos Parent of Fairport. Funeral services will be held this afternoon at 2:30 o'clock in the Emery Funeral Chapel, Rev. Lincoln G. Archer, pastor of the Methodist church, officiating. Masonic services in charge of Fairport Lodge were held at the same place last evening. Burial in Oakwood cemetery, Penfield -- Will O.
