SERVICES BEING SCHEDULED FOR VICTIMS OF AUTO ACCIDENT

FORT WAYNE - Funeral services have been scheduled for one of three persons killed in a two-car accident Tuesday night on Indiana 14, six miles east of New Haven.
Services for Rachel Chatfield, 23, of Payne will be held at 2 p.m. EST Saturday in the D. O. McComb and Sons Funeral Home in Fort Wayne. Burial will be in Lindenwood Cemetery in Fort Wayne.
Mrs. Chatfield was a native of Wabash, Ind. and was the head of a laundry department at Lutheran Nursing Home at Fort Wayne.
She is survived by her husband, 36, driver of one of the cars, who is in "fair" condition at Parkview Memorial Hospital, her mother, Mrs. Doris Newman of Fort Wayne, four brothers, William, Dennis, Curtis and Thomas Newman, all of Fort Wayne, and a sister, Janice Claycomb of New Haven.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 p.m. today.
Services for her two stepsons are incomplete, but will be held at the Putman Funeral Home in Coldwater, Mich. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery at Coldwater.
The two boys were born in Coldwater. Both attended school at Payne, where Kenneth Winter Jr., 11, was in fifth grade, and Ronald Winter, 9, was in the fourth grade.
Oliver Schlegel, 31, of Paulding, driver of the other car, suffered chin and forehead lacerations.

Mrs. Kenneth (Rachel) Chatfield, 23, Payne, Ohio, and her stepsons, Kenneth Chatfield Jr., 11, and Ronald Chatfield, 9, were killed late Tuesday when their car collided with another auto ion Ind. 14 about six miles east of New Haven in Allen County.
Kenneth Chatfield, 36, Mrs. Chatfield’s husband was driving the car when it ran off the highway and went out of control as he attempted to return to the paved surface, police said.
An oncoming car driven by Oliver Schlagel, 31, R.R. 2, Paulding, Ohio, struck the Chatfield car as it skidded broadside.
Chatfield and Schlagel were slightly injured.

Coldwater children killed in accident
COLDWATER – Two Coldwater children were killed in an automobile accident near Fort Wayne, Ind., Tuesday night.
Ronald Winter, 9, was dead at the scene, and his brother Kenneth, 11, was dead on arrival at Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne, according to reports received today. Also killed in the accident was Rachel Chatfield, 23, of Payne, Ohio.
The three were passengers in the car of the boys’ father, Kenneth E. Chatfield of Payne. Their mother, Doris A. Winter, resides at 324 Fiske Road.
According to the Allen County Sheriff’s Department, the Chatfield vehicle was headed toward Payne, when the car went off the road, veered back onto the roadway and crossed the centerline.
The car was hit broadside by the westbound vehicle of a Paulding, Ohio man. The accident remains under investigation.
Chatfield was admitted to Parkview Hospital with a broken hand and lacerations.
Kenneth and Ronald attended Lincoln Elementary School. They are survived by their mother and father; a brother, John M. Winter of Coldwater; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Marvin D. (Marjorie L.) Hurley of Coldwater; paternal grandmother, Mrs. Albert (Mary) Chatfield of Coldwater, and a maternal great-grandmother, Mrs. Mary Ellen Zebolsky of Coldwater.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Putnam Funeral Home.

In other accidents involving Paulding County residents Rachel Chatfield, 23, of Payne, and her two stepsons, Kenneth Junior, 11, and Ronald, 9, died in a two car crash in Allen County, Ind., on Indiana 14. On Nov. 2 her husband, Kenneth E., 36, died from injuries from the Oct. 8 crash.
