A Sensation Of Motorist Was Timely. Telling of a sensation that something was approaching, a driver described on Wednesday how a car passed him and struck the front of his utility truck while he was making a right-hand turn in Great Eastern-highway on December 20 last year. "If I had not pulled my hand in," said Frederick Smith. of Leacke-street, Belmont. "it would have been taken off." In the Perth Traffic Court yes terday, the other driver Thomas Ashworth Chatfield, of West Swan-road. Caversham faced a charge of negligent driving. He said that Smith had given no hand signal. Witness had moved out to pass Smith, who suddenly turned right and hit defendant. Chatfield admitted that he had given no warning. Trevor William Stanton said that he had seen Smith move to the centre of the road and give a clear hand signal. Chatfield was fined £3.

GREENMOUNT FATALITY Edwin Chatfield (22), single, of West Swan-road, Caversham, was killed almost instantly in a motor cycle smash at Green mount about midnight last night. It was reported that Chatfield was riding down the hill and that he apparently failed to negotiate a bend near the Bullarra-road intersection with Great Eastern-highway with the result that he crashed into a telephone pole. His machine was picked up about three yards beyond the pole and he was lying another six yards farther on. He was dead before a Midland Junction St. John ambulance arrived. Constable J. D. Jones made inquiries.
