A RESIDENT OF THE PEAR PARK DISTRICT DEAD
R.H. Chatfield Passed Away At Nine O'Clock Today

R.H. Chatfield, for many years a resident of the Pear Park district and one of the most highly respected men of that section of the valley, passed away at 9 o'clock this morning following a strike of paralysis suffered during the night. Death came entirely unexpectedly as he was a very active man for 74 years of age, and was about his ranch work as usual yesterday.

Mr. Chatfield retired about the usual hour last evening, seemingly in excellent health for a man of his years. About 1 o'clock this morning his daughter, Miss Minnie, who resided with the father, heard him apparently clear his throat. She called to him and asked if he was all right. He answered that he was, but there was something in the way in which he answered that attracted the daughter's attention, and she went into the other room. She found that he had seemingly suffered a stroke of some kind, and at once called a physician. Before the arrival of the doctor he had lapsed into unconsciousness from which he never aroused.

Mr. Chatfield is survived by five children, Miss Minnie, who made her home with him and who is employed as primary teacher in the Pear Park school, Olive Chatfield, Mrs. John Shriver and Mrs. May Martin, all of whom reside in the Pear Park district and Arthur Chatfield of Clifton. The wife and mother passed away in 1908.

While no definite plans for the funeral service had been made this afternoon, the service will be held Sunday afternoon if the Rev. Clark Bower of Montrose can be available and officiate at that time.
