Jul 12, 1884: Aspen Weekly Times, Aspen, Pitkin County, Colorado (pg 4): Misses. Della and Ora Chatfield spent the Fourth and several days of this week visiting friends in Aspen. Following article may or may not be about this Ora. BUT with an unusual forename and birth years being the same it could! Ora married in 1898 but she was subsequently divorced! Clarence and Richmond Examiner and New England Advertiser (Grafton, NSW : Tuesday 17 September 1889) An EXTRAORDINARY ELOPEMENT.-Elopements of persons of opposite sexes are common enough all the world over, but did you ever (asks the New York correspondent of the Melbourne Age) hear of two of a kind that fell in love and ran away? Such a thing has actually happened out in Colorado where two girls, aged respectively 24 and 16 years, have fallen madly in love with each other, and in consequence of parental opposition tb their living together, have taken themselves to parts unknown. They are Miss Ora Chatfield and Miss Clara Dietrich, the latter the older of the twain. Love letters of the most gushing character have passed between them. and. a few days ago, when the two were ruth- lessly separated, the latter had a severe attack of nervous prostration, and neither would be comforted. What makes the case more interesting is that both are women of intelligence, and not at all given to novel-reading or romantic ideas in general. Miss Dietrich was the keeper of the post office in the town where they lived, and the success- ful manager of a general store which she inherited from her father, who died a few years ago. The younger woman's father has been the cruel parent who endeavoured to separate the lovers ; he has caused warrants to be issued for the arrest of both with a view of investigating their sanity, but, up to date, has been unable to find them. It is often enough the case that school girls have a sentimental attachment for each other, but it does not take the shape of the present case, which seems to be out of the ordinary run. ----- USA Census, 1900 Name: Ora L Shaw Event Place: Redbank, Spring Creek, Tensleep, Hyattville, Bonanza Precincts, Big Horn, Wyoming Gender: Female Age: 27 Marital Status: Married Race: White Race (Original): W Relationship to Head of Household: Wife Number of Living Children: 1 Years Married: 2 Birth Date: Jul 1873 Birthplace: Nebraska Marriage Year (Estimated): 1898 Father's Birthplace: Ohio Mother's Birthplace: Illinois Mother of how many children: 1 Household Role Gender Age Birthplace Charles Shaw Head M 41 Iowa Ora L Shaw Wife F 27 Nebraska Charles E Shaw Jr. Son M 1 Wyoming Ed Lockhard Laborer M 32 Iowa Albert Keyes Laborer M 31 Maine Victor Simpson Laborer M 22 Kansas Tony Dixon Laborer M 24 New York Sam Lee Laborer M 45 China District: 69 , Sheet Number and Letter: 6B , Household ID: 113 , Line Number: 59 , Affiliate Name: The U.S. National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) , Affiliate Publication Number: T623 , GS Film Number: 1241826 , Digital Folder Number: 004120652 , Image Number: 00307 ----- USA Census, 1920 Name: Ora C Shaw Event Place: Los Angeles Assembly District 72, Los Angeles, California Gender: Female Age: 39 Marital Status: Married Race: White Can Read: Yes Can Write: Yes Relationship to Head of Household: Head Birth Year (Estimated): 1881 Birthplace: Nebraska Father's Birthplace: Ohio Mother's Birthplace: Illinois District: 331 , Sheet Number and Letter: 4B , Household ID: 96 , Line Number: 65 , Affiliate Name: The U.S. National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) , Affiliate Publication Number: T625 , GS Film number: 1820112 , Digital Folder Number: 004293712 , Image Number: 00539 ----- USA Census, 1930 Name: Ora Shaw Event Place: Los Angeles (Districts 0251-0500), Los Angeles, California, Gender: Female Age: 56 Marital Status: Divorced Race: White Relationship to Head of Household: Lodger Birth Year (Estimated): 1874 Birthplace: Nebraska Father's Birthplace: Illinois Mother's Birthplace: Ohio Affiliate Film Number: 146 Household Role Gender Age Birthplace Seth I Terry Head M 71 Connecticut Myron W Terry Son M 30 Colorado Ruth M Terry Daughter-in-law F 26 Utah Rae W Kunz Lodger F 50 Illinois Ora Shaw Lodger F 56 Nebraska Plus many others.
