Named in honor of father’s oldest brother Edward Livingston Chatfield, a family hero and a person of sound character who had truly been trained up in virtue and knowledge, a youthful pilgrim on the road, a man who, in spite of all odds, had, indeed, been crowned with length of days.

"Reminder: E.L. Chatfield, Jr. (b. 1876) was James Herrick Chatfield and Annie Brazier's son, not Edward's (our soldier). Edward Jr. had been named after Edward, the family hero, even though convention would have held that James and Annie might opt for a different name, preserving "Edward" for soldier Edward's use if, and when, he married and became a father of a son. Soldier Edward married a year after Edward Jr. was born, and six years later Edward and Anna had their first (and only) child, a daughter, Edaline. Sometimes things just work out right!"
