USA Social Security Death Index Edward “Fritz” Chatfield, 73, Sundance, died Wednesday, April 26, 1995, at Crook County Nursing Home in Sundance of complications of multiple sclerosis. Fritz served in the U.S. Army during World War II, including overseas tours in the Philippines and Hawaii. He returned to Wyoming in 1945 to enter into a partnership with his parents and his brother and sister-in-law. On Nov. 25, 1948, he married Ethel J. Andersen and brought her into the family ranching operation. Fritz loved sheep, and in the early 1950s he began raising registered Rambouillets. He built his flock into one of the finest ones anywhere. He sold purebred rams throughout the nation and even to South America, and his wool brought the highest price in the nation several times throughout his career. Fritz worked closely with the Farmers-Ranchers Cooperative in Belle Fourche and its affiliated Wool Warehouse and served as chairman of its board of directors for eight years. He also served as president of the Crook County Farm Bureau, president of the Crook County Animal Disease Committee, president of the Crook County Predatory Animal Control Board, member of the Crook County Weed and Pest Control Board and member of the Crook County Brucellosis Board. Fritz was a member of Sundance Church of Christ. He is survived by his wife, Ethel Chatfield, Sundance; a daughter, Cheryl Wales, and her husband, Terry Wales, Sundance; two granddaughters, Brittany and Jaimee Wales. Also surviving are his mother, Berenice Chatfield, at the family ranch; his brother, Charles “Chipper” Chatfield and sister-in-law Margery Chatfield, also at the ranch; his sister, Elvera Morris, Buffalo, Wyo.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and his brother-in-law, Leo Morris. Visitation will be from 8 a.m., until 12:30 p.m. today at Fidler-Roberts Northeastern Wyoming Funeral Chapel in Sundance. Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the United Methodist Church in Sundance with Marvin Massey officiating. The casket will not be open at the church.
