Born Aug. 3, 1900, at Brazoria County, Texas to William Audrey and Mary Jane Reynolds Chatfield, he was one of eight children when their family lived in Madge, Texas, in Coleman County, and then moved by covered wagon to Ford County when he was 12 years old.

He left Ford County in 1921 and moved to Sanger, Texas, where he was a farmer and rancher. His first wife, Augusta Schmidt passed away after 20 years. He then married Alma Strader Padgett and they were long-time residents of Sanger. They were also residents of Keene, Texas, where they were involved in the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Survivors include his wife, of the home; one daughter, Mauryne Miller, Ardmore, one sister, Daisy Chatfield Layland, Cleburne, Texas; three granddaughters, Cyndy Hughes and her husband, Andy, Loveland, Colo., Kelly Lopresto and her husband, Mark, Baton Rouge, La., and Stacy Rodrick and her husband John, Ardmore; six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Survivors include a daughter, Frankye M. Miller, Ardmore; sisters, Geraldine Belz, Keene, Texas, Hazel Oliver and Edna Strader, Ardmore; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
