Named Zelpha or Zilpha, she was born in Killingly. CT in 1764 - at age 8 or 9 she moved with her parents to Stephentown, Rensselaer Co., NY where she lived until she married Cornelius Chatfield soon after the close of the Revolutionary war. After Cornelius died in 1796, she married, in 1797, Richard Smith.
She had children by each husband, including Col. Asa Chafield and Christopher Smith, Esq. (in whose home she died). She died in 8/2/1847.
