USA Social Security Death Index Obituary. ATTLEBORO - Joyce Lee (McMahon) Chatfield died Saturday, Jan. 24, 2009 at Life Care Center of Attleboro. She was the wife of the late Arthur Ives Chatfield, who passed away on July 4, 2006. Joyce was born in Corning, N.Y., the daughter of the late Beatrice and Lee McMahon. Raised and educated in Corning, Joyce was a graduate of Corning Academy. Upon completion of high school, Joyce furthered her education and graduated from Grove City College, Grove City, Pa. She also attended Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg, Va. After completing college, Joyce opened her own commercial art business. Joyce and her family moved to Attleboro in 1962. Upon the completion of her sons' education in the Attleboro public schools, Joyce herself decided to become a teacher and tutor in the local community. Joyce did private tutoring for many at her home at St. John the Evangelist School in Attleboro and at Mercymount Country Day School in Cumberland, R.I. She was very proud of the successes of her students over the years, and many of them had kept in touch with her after completing their educations. Joyce is survived by her three sons and their families: Charles "Bud", his wife Dafne and daughter Brianna; John, his wife Karen and son John; and Stephen, his wife Anna and sons Brett, Patrick and Davis. She also leaves a sister-in-law, Mary Chatfield of Ithaca, N.Y.; a cousin, Holly Helfrich of Middletown Springs, Vt., and her sons, Alex and Andrew; a nephew, Brian McMahon and his wife Kim of Sarasota Springs, N.Y.; and nieces Sue Iversen and her husband Chris of Gorham, N.Y., and Nan Cavanaugh and her husband Jim of Harrisburg, Pa. Joyce's family would like to thank all of her close friends who visited her often and helped them this past year. The family gives special thanks to Dr. Steven Bensson and his staff for their care and compassion. The family also greatly appreciates the love and support from the staff at Life Care Center of Attleboro. The care she received there was exceptional, and these special people will always remain close to their hearts and in their prayers. A memorial Mass will be celebrated Thursday, Jan. 29 at 11 a.m. in St. John the Evangelist Church, 133 North Main St., Attleboro. Burial will be private.
