Although the usual spelling for this surname is Wannamaker, some variations of the spelling are Wannemaker, Wanamaker and Wanemaker.

In 1849 Henry Lewis Wannamaker, went to Grant Co., WI where his uncle, Jonas Wannamaker had settled in 1846 as well as his brother Samuel. The following year, he walked back to Trumbull Co., OH in order to bring his family to WI . They settled in Platteville where he followed his trade of blacksmith.

In 1853 he went to CA and returned to Platteville, WI in 1857. He served in the CIVIL WAR, enlisted for 3 yrs. in Co. E, 25th WI Vol. Infantry, was with Sherman on the march to the sea and in the Carolina Campaign, honorably discharged in 1865.

In 1875 he moved his family to Golden, Jefferson, CO where they lived until his death in Feb 1906, age 83. His obituary was published Mar 1, 1906 the Loveland Register noting that his 6 grandsons were pallbearers and that he was a great grandfather of 8 children.
