Mrs. Gertrude Mae (Sarge) Evans, 236 South Eighth Street, widow of Horace Evans, died at 4:30 o'clock this morning at her home after a lingering illness of two years. However, it was only during the past eleven weeks that she was bedfast, and that her condition became serious. Death came quietly after a period in the afternoon during which she seemed to rally. Mrs. Evans was an active member of the Trinity United Brethren Church and Sunday school, and was devoted to the work of the church. She was the daughter of the late Mrs. Edwin B. Sarge, natives of Lebanon, who spent most of their time at Pine Grove. Mrs. Sarge was the former Rose Schropp of this city. Mrs. Evans was born in Auburn, Schuylkill County, and had resided in this city approximately 40 years. Her time was given to her family and friends, and she will be missed by her children to whom she was a devoted mother and counselor. Her husband died in 1936. Surviving are four daughters, Rose, wife of Raymond R. CHATFIELD, Westfield, N.J.; Rachel, wife of Frederick S. Frantz, Lebanon; Priscilla, wife of Bruce H. Shellenhamer, Hershey; Miss Ruth Evans at home; one son, S. D. Evans, Lebanon, Advertising Manager of the Lebanon Daily News; five grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Edith Blackburne, Palmyra, New Jersey; and a brother, Assemblyman H. David Sarge of this city.
