Obituary
Lucy J. Geringer, age 93, of Tecumseh peacefully passed away Sunday, Oct. 25, 2015, at Hospice of Lenawee Hospice House in Adrian.
She was born March 7, 1922, in Milan to William H. and Helen M. (Gooding) Dell. On April 14, 1949, in Tecumseh, she married William Donald Geringer. He preceded her in death on July 4, 1995. Lucy is a 1940 graduate of Lincoln Consolidated High School in Ypsilanti. She then graduated from the Toledo Hospital School of Nursing in 1943. She proudly served in the USA Army from 1944 to 1946 as a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps at the 86th Field Hospital in Okinawa. Lucy was a proud supporter of women serving in the military and an advocate of WIMSA.
Lucy was employed as a nurse at the office of Dr. Ralph Helzerman, followed by Herrick Memorial Hospital. She was a dedicated member of the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, the Herrick Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, American Legion Post 34 and the American Legion Auxiliary. Lucy enjoyed crossword puzzles, knitting for charity and keeping in touch with her friends.
Lucy is survived by her daughter, Louann (Jerald) Chatfield of Tecumseh; son, David Geringer of Columbus, Neb.; and her grandsons, Jeffery Chatfield (Andrea Wynn) of Jackson and Aaron (Chanelle) Chatfield of Ann Arbor; and numerous cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Funeral services for Lucy will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 29, 2015, at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Tecumseh with the Rev. Gordon Peterson officiating. Burial will be in Brookside Cemetery, with military rites presented by the VFW Hall-Slater Post 4187 and the Tecumseh American Legion Underwood-Orr Post 34. Visitation will be from 2 until 5 p.m. Wednesday and from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Thursday at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Tecumseh.
