=====
Carl was the middle son in a family of nine children. He was born and grew up in Warren, Ohio, the son of German immigrant parents. He learned the tool and die trade, married Luella Heintzelman, and eventually moved to Detroit, Michigan. The family's first home was on Marcus Street. They built a new home on College near the Detroit City Airport which is where Carl lived until his death in 1960.
Carl enjoyed a sarcastic sense of humor. He was an avid card-player and enjoyed making things. One of the items he created was a Christmas "Pyramida," popular in German culture. These were table top, multi-tiered merry-go-rounds decorated with miniature animals and figurines, topped with balsa fan blades, that spun from heat coming either from a fireplace or heat ducts.
Carl enjoyed golfing and his son Neil remembered caddying for him at Maple Lane Golf course. He also enjoyed summers at his son's cottage on Lotus Lake in Waterford, Michigan and spending time with his grandchildren.
