He worked in the mines in Colorado and Butte, Montana before arriving in Whatcom County. In 1890 he took a homestead near Ferndale, Washington.
Tom was a clerk for Paradise school, a sexton of Woodlawn cemetery for several years and a charter member of the Columbian Lodge, I.O.O.F., Ferndale. He was Ferndale township treasurer and assessor for several terms. In 1901 he bought a lot in Woodlawn cemetery consisting of 8 plots for $4.00
In 1918 the family moved to southern Idaho. They lived at Besseln a couple years then bought a farm near Dietrich, Idaho.
