Warren was the son of Dunham Bessey, Sr. and Azuba Beebe Bessey. Dunham may be buried in Crown Point, Indiana, according to an old family diary, in an unknown gravesite. He is last seen in the 1870 federal Census for Dundee, Kane, Illinois. He is known to have traveled West in old age with his son, Albert Bessey and family . They eventually locate in Kearney, Buffalo, Nebraska, but Dunham is not with them there. It is speculated he died enroute and was buried possibly in an unknown location.

Wellington Bessey born 1844 and died 1922. Served in the Civil War.
Orson Edward Bessey born in 1849.
Henry Ellis Bessey born in 1854.

Warren enlisted on July 29, 1862 in Co. F, 122nd New York Volunteers in Marcellus to fight in the Civil War. Warren was mustered in as a private on August 5, 1862 to serve three years. He died in a regimental hospital in or near Fredericksburg, Virginia. He died of disease. His body was not brought home for burial. His pension #22327 was issued in favor of his widow, Lucinda.
