Admiral Hon. Keith Stewart was born on 3 January 1814. He was the son of Admiral George Stewart, 8th Earl of Galloway and Lady Jane Paget. He married Mary Caroline Fitzroy, daughter of Sir Charles Augustus FitzRoy and Lady Mary Lennox, on 9 August 1841.
He was invested as a (Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.). He had a younger son who died unmarried.
