William Harvey Jones was born September 20, 1830, in Brown County, Ohio. From there he moved to Cass County, Illinois, with his parents at about the age of ten. He was married to Margarette Marrow on October 20, 1854, at that place.
In 1857 they moved to Atchison County, Missouri, and from there they moved to Johnson County, Nebraska, in 1869. From there to Smith County, Pleasant township, Kansas, in 1881, where they resided until his death on January 26, 1915. His wife preceded him in death on the 7th day of May 1904.
To this union were born five children: Lily, Leroy, Maggie, Isabelle, and Johnie (all of whom were at his bedside except Lily); and one half-sister, Mary Chatfield. Lily's home is in California and Mary lives in Colorado.
He joined the Cumberland Presbyterian Church when young and was a member until he came to Kansas where he joined with the United Brethren Church of Highland in which communion he lived consistently until he passed to the higher communion in Heaven.
Funeral was preached by Rev. A.W. Cortner, the pastor at the Highland Church, at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, January 28, and internment was in the Meade Cemetery, east of the church.
