Jesse Alexander was the first of twelve children born to Stephen D. and Sarah Jane King Ross and he was born on Swans Creek, Galia county OH.
At the age of 18, Jesse enlisted in Co F 1st Regiment Ohio Light Artillery. Along with other injuries, he sustained an ear injury from a loud cannon rapport and was said he used a "horn" to aid his hearing.
He also served as South Point's PostMaster.
