KERNOCHAN--John Marshall, the Nash Professor Emeritus of Law at Columbia Law School, music publisher and founder of the Kernochan Center for Law, Media and the Arts, whose work in intellectual property law spurred protections for artists, died Monday. The Columbia Law School community mourns his passing. Kernochan prodded the U.S. to amend its copyright laws so it could become party to the Berne Convention for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works in 1989. He developed the U.S. chapter of the Association Littraire et Artistique Internationale. He wrote doggerel verse and bawdy limericks, and composed religious music. He graduated from Columbia Law School in 1948, and married Adelaide Chatfield-Taylor. As head of Galaxy Music Corporation he published Pulitzer - winning composer Robert Ward and inspired a revival of English and Italian madrigals. He is survived by five children: John of Cambridge, MA; Denny of Santa Monica, CA; Sarah of New York City; Wayne of Wellesley, MA; and Rose of New York City. Dean David M. Schizer, Lucy G.
