Excerpts:
Sarah A. Long died on Feb. 11 at age 59. She lived on S.E. 52nd street. Six children were listed as survivors, a son and two daughters living in the Portland area, a son in Toledo, Oregon, a daughter in Oakland, California, and a daughter in Siletz, Oregon. She also had two siblings, W. J. and Charles Hines, living in Tillamook, Oregon. The funeral was to be held at Finley's mortuary and commitment was in Mount Scott Cemetery.
[See the actual funeral notice for names and additional information. Note: the Hines surname was also found spelled as Hinnes and Himes in other records.]
The 1900 US Census showed Sarah W. Beyly living in Fairview precinct, Tillamook County, Oregon, with her husband Shelley M Beyly. [Looking at the digitized census page and comparing the handwriting, Sarah's middle initial was more likely an "A" not a "W." Additional census records show the "Beyly" surname also spelled Bayley.] It shows she was born in Oregon, April 1864, had given birth to 8 children and 7 were still living.
The census records list her as born in Oregon. In 1910 Sarah is listed as Sarah A. Long, wife of John W. Long, living in Portland, Oregon. In 1920 she is listed as Sarah Long, widow, living with her son and head of the household, Bert Bayley, in precinct 4, Yamhill County, Oregon. Her first husband, Shelly Bayley and some of her other children are also listed in the household.
Sarah's maiden, according to the 1880 census was Hinnes [other possible spellings: Hines, Himes].
